Our Approach
All students at #teamabbey work at different abilities, as their individual needs are prioritised. Every learner is different and therefore, we must ensure that the way we assess reflects this.
At Abbey School, we use a continuous assessment cycle to monitor and support the progress of every child throughout the year. This holistic process ensures we understand each pupil's strengths, needs, and aspirations, enabling us to provide personalised support and celebrate progress across all areas of development.

What is achievement at #teamabbey?
At Abbey School, we recognise that achievement is about much more than academic success. Through our rich and personalised curriculum, we assess and celebrate wider progress in areas such as wellbeing, independence, communication, resilience, confidence, leadership, personal development, and preparation for adulthood. We monitor pupils' growth through EHCP outcomes, enrichment opportunities, careers education, leadership roles, cultural experiences, and personal development activities, ensuring every learner develops the skills, values, and aspirations needed to thrive in school, their community, and beyond.

How does #teamabbey assess Academic Achievement?
At Abbey School, we believe that every pupil is unique and progresses in different ways. Our personalised assessment system focuses on individual learning targets, ensuring that progress is measured against each learner’s starting point, strengths, and needs. Using evidence such as classroom observations, photographs, videos, and pupil work, we track progress through a pathway of grades and steps, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps for learning. This approach enables us to provide appropriate challenge, support, and opportunities for success while preparing pupils for future qualifications and positive outcomes beyond school. Our Guide explains our assessment system.
